Learn to Draw a Cute Gnome
Follow along for a fun tutorial for a little gnome! The video below includes a quick 1min tutorial. Download a free PDF with the drawing steps from my free resources page HERE or at the bottom of the page.
Did you know…
That gnomes originated in European folklore. I grew up in Finland, and in our culture gnomes were thought of as the guardians of the forest and homes. The gnome lived in the space that it protected, and we would have forest gnomes, barn gnomes, house gnomes and sauna gnomes among others.
Step-by-Step Tutorial
1
Start with a V shape and add a curved line to the bottom of it. This will be the hat.
2
Add a long U-shape under the hat. This will be the beard and face.
3
Add 2 C-shapes to either side of the head for ears, and two curved lines below them for the body.
4
Add L-shaped lines to the top right under the hat. Add two short lines to the bottom.
5
Connect the bottom with an upside down U-shape, these will be the legs. Add a sideways C to the face to make a nose.
6
Add two more curved lines inside the ears, and dots for eyes.
Add a curved line under the nose for a mouth.
Add little feet at the end of the legs.
7
Add a belt on the waist. Add two macaroni shapes for the arms. You can bend them however you like.
8
Add hands or mittens to the ends of the arms, and get creative with the colors. You can also add patterns to the pants or sweater.
Congratulations! You drew an adorable gnome! The word gnome in other languages:
Finnish = tonttu
