6 New Fall Themed Books For Kids
Are you looking for new fall themed books to read in your home or classroom? Below is a list of the 6 best new fall books out in 2024-2025.
Ages 3-8. By Sherri Maret & Thomas Hilley
My kids love books where we can sign familiar tunes! As you may guess, this book is sung to the tune of the 12 days of Christmas. "On the first day of autumn we looked around to see a wild turkey trotting down the trail."
In Twelve Days of Autumn, each day reveals new animals, and nature’s transformations. A cute little bonus is finding the curious turtle on each page. This book is part of a seasonal series, so if you enjoy it, make sure to grab the summer and winter books as well.
Age 3-6. By Jo Lindley
A beautifully illustrated picture book exploring anxiety and the what-ifs that creep up on us.
The book is cozy, and fun read aloud. The events takes place in a world like ours in the fall. Each season is portrayed as a character, and while Summer, Spring and Winter are enjoying blackberries and jumping into piles of leaves, Autumn is not sure if it’s quite safe. What if he gets tangled in a bramble or a worm wiggles in his hair? The book ends on a positive note with Autumn overcoming his fears with a little help from his friends. A great book for social emotional learning.
Ages 3-6. By Wendi Silvano & Mirka Hokkanen. Kirkus starred review.
A beautiful lyrical picture book that combines nature and the sense of touch. It shows a grandpa-grandkid relationship, not often seen in picture books, as they venture out into the woods and back.
The book is a great vocabulary builder and also has backmatter on the sense of touch and fun forest sensory activities. This book has free downloadable resources; a nature bingo, coloring pages and activity sheets are available here.
Ages 3-6. By Mirka Hokkanen. SLJ starred review.
A funny nonfiction picture book about leaves; why they are important and how they change color in the fall. The only nonfiction book on the topic that has come out recently.
The clear, informative text and bright, charming illustrations, along with amusing interjections from the leaves themselves, makes this such a cute addition to the LITTLE SEASONS book series exploring natural life cycles! This book is perfect for classrooms, homeschools, or for families interested in nature exploration and gardening. It includes interactive back matter, a tear-out memory card game and has free resources to print out here.
Age 3-7. By Daniela Kulot & translated by Elisabeth Lauffer.
A great read-aloud picture book about community and friendship brought alive by colorful illustrations and an energetic cast of characters.
Fox, Mouse, and Crow are sad that winter is coming, but Squirrel is excited for the change. A sudden storm shakes up the forest and our characters, and they learn a new appreciation for the seasons and friendships. This book is great for classrooms and homes where parents and educators want to explore themes of compassion, community building, appreciating what you have, on top of the seasonal notes.
Ages 2-5. By Ekaterina Trukhan.
I’m adding this board book on this list because I’m obsessed with the midcentury modern & collage inspired illustrations and the relatable kids viewpoint.
In this lushly illustrated board book, we get a kids view of what it’s like to experience fall. From playing outside in the colorful leaves, to finding treasures, to helping mom and dad, to cozy cooking and playing games inside while to wind whistles outside. Experience the wonders of fall and what makes it feel special, and use it as a jumping off point for a conversation what makes fall special for you. If you fall in love with this book like I did, you’ll be happy to know it’s part of a seasonal series.
