Did you know…
The tiger character in the movie is modeled after Korean folk art called Minhwa from the 17-19th centuries. Unbound by formal artistic constraints the art is characterized by bright colors, and humor, and it still holds deep cultural significance in Korea. You can find more about Minhwa art here.
Step-by-Step Tutorial
1
Start with a round shape similar to a roll of bread. Use a pencil so you can erase some lines later. Draw light lines to divide the shape in half both ways.
2
Add a triangle for a nose in the middle of the crosshairs, and triangles for the ears.
3
Add curved lines for eyes and three dots in the middle above them.
4
Add circles under the eye curves, and curved lines that start under the nose and go to the edges of the face.
5
Add lines to corners of eyes and pupils in the middle. Round the ends of the mouth lines, and add a downward curve to the middle to make it look like the mouth is open.
6
Add highlights to eyes, and fangs to mouth line under the eyes.
7
Add two more stripes to the top on each side of face, and add two big and two small fangs on the top of the mouth. Then add small teeth in the space left below. Erase the bottom of the chin.
8
Add a chin to your tiger and erase all extra lines. Trace lines with a marker if you want.
You can either shade or use colors as below to finish your character. Add a lighter area to middle of the eye, and a light area around the eye. The nose and inside of ears are pink, and the inside of the mouth can be black.
