Learn to Draw a Capybara

Follow along for a fun tutorial for a capybara! The video below includes tutorials for both a standing and sitting capybara. Download a free PDF with the drawing steps from my free resources page HERE.

Did you know…

That Capybaras are the largest rodent on the planet. (Rodents are animals like mice and rats.) They are excellent swimmers and can even sleep in water. They also live in large groups and can be very loud making chirpy and barky sounds, clicks and snorts.

Step-by-Step Tutorial

1

Start with a line and a small number 3 for the top of the head and ears. Draw a curved line down.

2

Add a sock or loop to make up the body of the capybara.

3

Add 2 lines in a v shape for front leg and a line straight down from the other end.

4

Add nostrils, and a front paw. Ad a curve and a straight line to the back leg and a small paw on the bottom.

5

repeat the leg shapes for the back legs.

6

Add eyes to the top of the head. I chose to do 2 eyes, but you can just do one. If you just do one, put it pretty close to the corner where the ears are. Erase the lines of the body that were in the legs.

7

Put dots in the eye balls, and draw a straight line down from the nose and add a curve for a mouth .

8

Add some fur and eye brows if you want to add extra details. Color the snout in with a darker color and the fur with a lighter color.

Congratulations! You drew a capybara!

The instructions for the sitting one are in the video at the top of the page.
